Flip House's open plan allows striking views outward to the city, bay, and garden. The back of the house was recast as the primary facade with a new glass wall, allowing natural light to fill the home throughout the day. The material palette set forth by fala atelier (see more here) dissolves the traditional boundaries of a house. Vast surfaces of glass bricks, tiles, and light blue are occasionally interrupted by dots of marble, lines of wood, and blatant red elements. ‘One could refer to Ito’s sense of erotic transparency and Hasegawa’s experiments with overlays and layers. The project is a spectacular answer to a non spectacular question.

Space with 8 Walls

Uniquely set up inside, you have different views of the outside depending on where you are in the home due to walled-off, separated areas of the living quarters. You also have sustainable features, with one being the waste-water recycling system for the irrigation system. Just one of many that make this house not only beautiful, but environmentally friendly. This home was built around existing trees and is a sustainable home with unique features. The home is multi-level and an impressive size inside with unimaginable space and openness. On the main level you will be in awe at the views you have all around you that put you right in the heart of nature.

Tea House by David Jameson Architect: Washington DC

Glass has progressed from being a purely functional material to becoming an important structural and aesthetic feature in modern interior design. The “room” with the greatest privacy is the bedroom, which also contains a small desk. It is separated from the living room by a series of built-in storage cabinets with walnut veneer. Although today open space floor-plans are common, it was highly unusual in 1949.

Located in the backyard of a suburban house, this eye-catching glasshouse design dominates the landscape. Located inside a beautifully planted private yard, the Tea House designed by David Jameson Architect is a great place for rest, meditation, and music. Despite the rapid boom and bust of many house trends, certain components have endured and evolved into timeless classics.

Minimalist Interiors

The floor plan of the Glass House reveals a fairly traditional living space. Although there are no walls, Philip Johnson referred to areas within the rectangular, loft-like space as “rooms.” There is a kitchen, dining room, living room, bedroom, hearth area, bathroom, and an entrance area. Despite the very modern style of the house, the layout could easily be a colonial home, something Johnson noted. Glass houses are one of the most wonderful architectures that boast unique aesthetics and functionality.

This is a multi-layer property that boasts of four bedrooms and four baths. It was originally designed by Steven Ehrlich but went through a major interior re-design by Michael Lee who transformed it into the luxurious home it is today. Designede by architect, Hans van Heeswijk, the house was built for himself and is located on the island of IJburg. It is a three-story glass house that faces out of the water and features a large ground floor with the dining room situated there, along with three bedrooms. Inside, you’ll find exotic wood, stainless steel, and natural stone for a contemporary style of living.

Glass Houses with a Clear Sense of Style

A Thibault wall covering graces the entry, and a Fibreworks runner leads guests up the stairs. Native California wildflowers accent the Arroyo Vista Garden, which was designed with fire safety in mind. Landscape architect Elisa Read Pappaterra filled the center fountain with cascading succulents. Jerome Thiebault created a polished and petite bathroom complete with storage and a shower. Troweled cement plaster was applied to the walls, and handcrafted Zia tile adds pattern to the floor.

Architecture firm FAKT designed this volume as an extension to a 1960s home in southwest Berlin. Transparent and minimalist, the structure features glazed walls and 8 slender panels. Apart from providing support to the glass walls, the solid panels also double as creative room dividers. Completed with a subtly reflective finish, the steel panels reflect the surroundings. The use of only a few pieces of furniture, without superfluous decorative objects, helps to put the focus on the architectural design and the surrounding garden.

A void runs through the center of the house, bringing light into the home and linking levels at the same time. Like many other modern glass houses from our list, this one boasts open-plan spaces that make the most of the glazed walls. Here, the living areas open to vistas of the surrounding hills and the sea in the distance.

Locals called it Pecker Point, presumably because it was a prime makeout venue. For the Stahls, it became the blank screen on which they projected their dreams of a life together, a place to build a future, a family, and a house like no other. Johnson lived alone and became known as the “Man in the Glass House”2.

This four story, 173-square-meter waterfront home features a distinctive white glass façade that is enough to draw anyone’s attention. There’s an open kitchen-dining-living space on the ground floor, two bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor, a studio with two large terraces on the second floor, and a garage and utility space in the basement. There are glass walls on three sides to blend into the surrounding foliage. The focus of the design is to maximize outside views from all living spaces of the house. Located in a rural area of Navarra, Spain, the Landaburu Borda house has a traditional stone envelope and gabled roof.

After the sun sets, and the interior can be seen from outside, the owners light candles which make the cottage glow like a huge lantern. Located in Chileno Valley, just three miles west of downtown Petaluma, the barn is complimented by its setting and the coastal range beyond. The light-filled living area opens up to the long view south and gathers the bedrooms and kitchen to either side. Built in 1954, the Donald and Helen Olsen House was designed by Berkeley architect Donald Olsen and is a well-preserved example of International Style.
